Track 1: ICH and Multiculturalism: Issues & Challenges

Multicultural societies are sites of rich and diverse intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and cultural diversity and multiculturalism are often regarded as key components of thriving urban cites. As communities from different cultures and background live and work together, the interaction between these communities often leads to the meeting and the evolution of different ICH elements and practices.

In this track, speakers will share examples of how research and documentation of ICH are carried out in a multicultural context and/or in urban environments; examine the importance and roles of ICH in facilitating cross-cultural understanding and community building especially in multicultural societies; and highlight related issues and challenges in conducting research and documentation of ICH in such multicultural societies and/or cities.
