John is Deputy Director of Research at the National Heritage Board (NHB), Singapore. He has a Masters in History from Cambridge University, UK, and a Masters in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York, USA. He was previously the General Manager of the Peranakan Museum and Deputy Director of the Asian Civilisations Museum, and has curated exhibitions at both museums and the National Museum of Singapore. Prior to this, he was Deputy Director of Policy at NHB, after working for more than a decade in the private sector in CapitaLand and PSA Corporation.

A born-again Peranakan, John is rediscovering his ancestral heritage by greater participation in community social events and indulging his passion for makan (food).
